I would also add the Bodega Bay and Russian River area along the Pacific Coast. These are some of the most beautiful beach cliffs n the California coast adn aways fun to whale watch in the winter months. But bring a jacket, the cold wind seems to always blow (but it's great for kite flying).

After reading this article I am desperate to visit SF.... Will surely plan a tour soon....I found Stinson Beach quite interesting place to visit because it is a nice place to see a long stretch of sand for making sandcastles.
